Qantas has postponed its much anticipated rollout of in-flight Wi-Fi that lets customers communicate with the world during flights.
In February Qantas said it was readying the service which will also give passengers access to TV operator Foxtel, streaming giant Netflix and music library Spotify. The National Broadband Network will supply Wi-Fi. Some 80 domestic aircraft eventually will be fitted with the service.
Qantas was to debut in-flight Wi-Fi this week but on the weekend postponed it, citing “stability issues”.
“We’ve been testing in-flight Wi-Fi for several weeks and the performance has been strong,” Qantas says in a statement.
“We were preparing to open it up to media and customers this week as we continue our finetuning over the next few months, but some stability issues have emerged that we need to fix before customers can use it.
“We’re working with NBN and ViaSat to fix these issues very soon. We remain on-track for a broader roll out to the Qantas Domestic fleet from mid-2017.”
