NBN Co has announced a series of internal changes in a bid to fill its coffers and better co-ordinate the delivery of the National Broadband Network.
The new organisation and executive reshuffle will see NBN Co’s chief customer officer John Simon to take charge of selling more business services through the newly created Business Sales and Marketing department.
Mr Simon, NBN Co’s longest standing executive member, will lead the unit until his retirement in the first half of next year.
The residential side of things will be run by Brad Whitcomb, with his former role of chief strategy officer to be taken over by JB Rousselot.
NBN Co’s chief information officer John McInerney will be given a more expanded role to run the Systems Engineering and Operations team which combines the existing IT team with the network engineering team.
Meanwhile, NBN Co’s chief engineer Peter Ryan, will lead the newly formed Network Engineering and Operations team which will bring the network building and network engineering functions under one roof.
NBN Co general manager of corporate affairs, Karina Keisler, also makes an entry into the C-suite as chief corporate affairs officer.
Ms Keisler’s promotion to the executive committee will see her pick up the added responsibility of running ‘nbn-Local’, a newly formed group focused on national industry stakeholders and local relationships in remote and regional Australia.
The new organisational structure, which comes into the effect from July 1, lands as the company gets ready to release its latest corporate plan in August.
NBN Co chief Bill Morrow said the changes were also needed to improve overall customer experience and reflect the changing nature of the task ahead for NBN Co.
“Over the last 3 years alone, we have grown the size of our network from near 500 thousand homes to more than 5.5 million ready for service. End-users have risen from near 200 thousand to more than 2.2 million and revenue has grown from approximately $60 million to just less than $1 billion,” Mr Morrow said.
“Standing proudly with these accomplishments behind us and confident with the new challenges and priorities ahead, we know we must make a step change to keep pace with the progress of this industry-wide transformation.”
He added that NBN Co needed to start targeting business customers as a source of almost a billion dollars of future revenue and Mr Simon’s unit will deliver the strategy needed to fulfil that potential.
The remodelling also signals a shift in NBN Co’s focus from ‘network build’ to ‘network operate and optimise’ with a far greater emphasis on customers — both retail service providers and end-users.
“I’m confident in our ability to organise around the next phase of priorities and am pleased we have such strong and diverse talent to bring fresh thinking and proven expertise to our executive leadership,” Mr Morrow said.
