Motorola Moto G5 First Impressions Review: Made For Amazon Prime Lovers

Within a month of introducing the Moto G5 Plus in India, Lenovo owned Moto has launched the Moto G5 the smaller screen brother of the G5 Plus in India. We get you our first impressions of this new device from Moto.

The most amazing thing about the Moto G5 is that when you start the device, it does not ask you for your Gmail ID but your Amazon ID. That’s because it’s the first phone in India that’s made for Amazon Prime lovers. Also, it’s the first Amazon Prime smartphone in India.

With video viewing online on a rise, this can be the next differentiating factor for smartphones, you might see soon a Netflix phone. Also you get the entire Amazon Suit bundle along with Amazon Prime shopping benefits.

The Moto G5 focus on a service-oriented model than just mere specs bump. It’s good to see the company go back to their roots when they made a comeback in the Indian market.

One of the most intriguing thing for us on the Moto G5 was that it comes with a removable 2800 mAh battery and a 10W rapid charger that can charge the battery of the phone really fast. In a day and age where many companies resort to a non-removable battery, Moto has gone old school.

Specs wise the Moto G5 offers a 1.4Ghz Octa-core processor which is also the tried and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC with a 450 MHz Adreno 505 GPU. There is 3GB of RAM on offer with 16GB of inbuilt storage. This is a dual-Sim 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone that comes with two SIM slots. But the deal here is similar to the one that you find on a hybrid-SIM slot. The second SIM slot can either be used for a SIM card or expand the storage with the help of a micro SD card slot of up to 128GB.

The device weighs 144.5g and comes with a 5.0-inch, IPS LCD, Full HD, 1080p, 441 ppi, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection display. The display is good enough for a smartphone at this price point.

The rear camera on the G5 is a 13-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture, LED flash, 8X digital zoom and for selfies Moto has loaded the G5 with 5-megapixel camera with a wide angle lens, f/2.2 aperture and a display flash that’s similar to the retina flash seen on an iPhone. The rear camera is also nicely integrated on the device and comes with no camera bump at the back giving the back of the Moto G5 a clean look unlike what you got on the G5 Plus.

The Moto G5 is not a waterproof smartphone but is Water repellent as it comes with a nano-coating to protect it from splashes and spills. The fingerprint sensor on the G5 also works well. There are just two colour options to buy this phone in – Lunar Gray or Fine Gold. Fine gold in our opinion looks way cooler than Lunar Gray.

Overall, Moto has made the G5 different in terms of the G5 Plus with Amazon Prime Video on offer and a decent hardware phone, the Moto G5 can be that reliable phone that you are looking for in a budget.
