Global IT consultancy firm Capgemini has expanded its senior executive team in Australia and New Zealand with the appointment of former Origin energy chief information officer Olaf Pietschner as chief operating officer.
Mr Pietschner, who has previously served a two-year stint at Capgemini Central Europe, said his main objective was to ensure the company kept leveraging its body of knowledge to encourage organic growth.
“Our collaborative approach has been a big plus for us and our digital design agency complements what we are trying to build internally for our clients,” he told The Australian.
“It’s about maximising the digital opportunity for us in Australia as local companies look to reinvent around the customer.”
He added that the current crop of CIOs needed to look beyond the traditional confines of IT and see how technology could be used to improve a host of functions across a business.
While there are ongoing concerns about the state of the ICT labour market, Mr Pietschner sees a silver lining amid the gloom.
“There’s a renaissance of sorts under way for the engineering industry when it comes to the meeting the demands of the tech industry,” he said.
“We have a strong graduate program in place and we need to use it in a way that it sets up the foundation for the generational change needed in the industry.”
Capgemini ANZ’s boss Nicolas Aidoud said the breadth of Mr Pietschner’s experience was a valuable asset for the consultancy.
“Olaf will be instrumental in driving our offerings in intelligent technology to help our clients improve their competitiveness by delivering growth,” he said.
Capgemini has been operating in Australia for 15 years.
